minimization

— A method used for allocating participants to treatments in a study, aiming to achieve balance between treatment comparison groups in respect of factors that are expected to affect outcomes

Full explanation:

Minimization is a treatment allocation method, similar in intention to stratified randomization, intended to achieve balance between treatment groups with respect to specified prognostic factors, such as age and severity of the condition. With minimization, the next participant allocated is assigned to whichever treatment group would help to minimize any imbalance between groups for specified prognostic factors.
